SLDT can deliver decluttering street surveys

Communities Secretary Eric Pickles is calling on councils to work directly with local people to declutter their streets of surplus signs and obstructive railings.  Mr Pickles recommends the use of street audits – just like those successfully delivered by South Lakes Development Trust.

SLDT conducts on-street surveys with local people, to identify how their own streets can be improved.  Most recently the surveys were used to identify popular changes on Kirkland in Kendal, where wider pavements and better street furniture have been widely welcomed as a sensible improvement to the street – with a minimum of clutter.

Ex CBI Chief adds weight to LEP concerns

According to an article in Regeneration and Renewal published yesterday Digby Jones has expressed his concern about the lack of business sector involvement in the formation of Local Enterprise Partnerships.

SLDT has recently expressed similar concern to Brendan Jameson, Leader SLDC, about the apparent lack of tangible private sector involvement and the need to ensure that the expertise of the business sector in the highly economically active rural aspects of Cumbria are not overlooked.

Although Government has cited Chambers of Commerce as key players in business represenation it has to be asked if Cumbria Chamber can genuinely positon itself to represent the true voice of business across Cumbria and have all other key representative bodies been given fair opportunity to participate.
