Ideas for Ambleside — Polishing the Gem is a brief summary of the Ambleside and Waterhead Masterplan. The Masterplan was commissioned by The South Lakes Development Trust, and completed by a team of consultants (led by Manchester-based BDP) in 2007. It sets out a range of dynamic proposals to support the physical and economic regeneration of Ambleside and Waterhead.

The name "Masterplan" suggests some sort of blueprint that cannot be modified. Nothing could be further from the truth. Masterplanning is a tried and tested method for producing ideas that then go through a process of change and improvement.

The resulting Masterplan report is a vital tool for deciding which elements to refine, and to attract funding for those elements.
